Tell us more about your piece! What is the background of the piece? What led you to write it? What’s your process?

Clay McLeod Chapman, the author of Whisper Down the Lane, grew up in my neighborhood and is a friend of my two children. Halloween was his favorite time of the year, so it was no surprise that as an adult, he became a writer of horror novels.

When Whisper Down the Lane came out, I bought a copy and found it entertaining. At the time, a Welsh online magazine called Horla had accepted a horror story of mine, so I submitted this review, convinced that it would be a good fit. The editor, Matthew G. Rees, agreed and ran the piece in his magazine, which, unfortunately, went defunct a year later.

How did you feel when it was first published and how have your thoughts or feelings on the piece changed from then to now?

I am always pleased whenever one of my pieces is accepted for publication. It means someone besides me liked what I wrote. In this case, I was particularly happy because it increased the chances that someone reading the review might buy Clay’s book.

Is there a specific message you would like readers to take away from reading this piece?

If you like horror stories, check out Clay McLeod Chapman online. He has several novels and other projects in that genre.

What else would you like to tell readers about your writing? (Doesn’t have to refer only to your BCC piece)

I am a retired schoolteacher, and I write for fun. I self-publish my books through LuLu.com and give them away to friends and family members. I write in many genres and submit short stories and nonfiction essays to various periodicals. While I thoroughly enjoy writing fiction, I think I am better at feature articles and essays.

Because I spent some time teaching in China, the settings for all my novels include that country.
