BCC Shines a Light on: Mark Finnemore

BCC Shines a Light On:

Mark Finnemore

Name of the piece published by BCC:

Now as it is Forever

When/where was it originally published:

New Horizons issue 5 from way back in 2010

What is the background of the piece? What led you to write it? What’s your process?

It’s hard to tell exactly what I was thinking since it’s been 12+ years since I wrote it, but back then I was usually writing a story to try to sort out some personal issues I was going through at the time and here I was in a very pessimistic state of mind so I was imagining how I would feel if my life had been different, “better”, and how I would most likely still carry that negative mindset with me and still be dissatisfied so it would be easier to change my mindset than to change my past.

How did you feel when it was first published and how have your thoughts or feelings on the piece changed from then to now?

As always it was a thrill to have something published but then sad to see it fade away and disappear. It was a new thrill to see it revived by BCC!

Is there a specific message you'd like readers to take away from reading this piece?

Try to appreciate the now, even if it’s kinda sucky.

Where can readers find more of your work? (Website/social media, etc)

I’ve only written and published a couple stories since this one, one of which can be found at Emerge Literary Journal here: https://emergeliteraryjournal.com/demons-on-the-doorstep/ but everything else I’ve had published was in print magazines and anthologies and I probably have the only remaining copies of those. But you can find me on Twitter at @MythicPicnic where I do what I can to try to help writers with more talent and tenacity than I have by doing twitter writing contests and partnering with magazines and small presses to do paying writing projects.
