  1. Name of the piece published by BCC:

enemies to lovers to enemies

  1. When/where was it originally published:

Diphthong Lit!

  1. What is the background of the piece? What led you to write it? What’s your process?

The origin of this piece came from me being fascinated by fanfiction & how people’s favorite romantic tropes in fiction often come from how they want to be loved. I like parallels that way— a person who enjoys enemies to lovers likes the idea of being seen in their flaws and still being loved. Seemingly, the other way around— a lovers to enemies is just a messy divorce. I wanted to write a fanfiction in the format of a poem without any defined characters, but with action & fantasy elements (a romance that fills forgiveness in dynamite): one that could also parallel for a real-world divorce (you refuse to look for her these days— sometimes out of spite— until you run out of righteous anger.) Aren’t these sentiments that anyone with a lost connection can feel?

  1. How did you feel when it was first published and how have your thoughts or feelings on the piece changed from then to now?

When I first wrote it, I was slightly apprehensive to think that it might not make sense to people, or that it might have been too haphazard in its narrative. But now I think that uncertain & abstract elements can still add to the charm of a piece— it’s always brilliant to see what people infer from stories and poems that don’t tell you outright what they’re about.

  1. Is there a specific message you'd like readers to take away from reading this piece?

Haha, definitely not! I just hope it’s a fun & engaging piece to read for people, and that they can add their own headcanons to this piece with the characters they love and adore. If anyone has any fun new interpretations, I’d love for them to tell me!

  1. Where can readers find more of your work? (Website/social media, etc)

My personal website is phoenixtesni.com ; where you can find almost all of my work that I’ve put out into the world— poems, photographs, visual art, my blog, and other little projects. I love making new friends, so I’m @PhoenixTesni on Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr!
