BCC Shines A Light On: Pam Plumb

BCC Shines a Light On:

Pam Plumb

Name of the piece published by BCC:

Rock a Bye Baby

When/where was it originally published:

The Newcastle Journal (Newspaper)

What is the background of the piece? What led you to write it? What’s your process?

I wrote it in response to a prompt as part of my Creative Writing module for my BA. Unusually for me it was quite organic and came from some place I didn’t know existed! I re-drafted it many times before submission. I like the idea of an alternative explanation for autism, or any condition that appears different to the so-called norm.

How did you feel when it was first published and how have your thoughts or feelings on the piece changed from then to now?

I was elated to have it published the first time as it was one of the earliest pieces of completed writing I had done. It was strange to see my words in print. When BCC published it, it renewed that delight as I am very proud of the story.

Is there a specific message you’d like readers to take away from reading this piece?

The message would be that perhaps there are other ways of explaining behaviour and also how different relationships engender differing behaviours.

Where can readers find more of your work? (Website/social media, etc)
