Tell us more about your piece! What is the background of the piece? What led you to write it? What’s your process?

All poets and nonpoets, carry so much with us. I carry a tree. When I was a child, I planted an oak tree and my brothers mowed it off more than once. It recovered again and again and became a huge tree. The tree is my heart.

How did you feel when it was first published and how have your thoughts or feelings on the piece changed from then to now?

I was thrilled. I still feel that way.

Is there a specific message you would like readers to take away from reading this piece?

Nature gives us lessons all the time. The Old Oak Tree shows strength and survival. The poem suggests we look to the elders who know spring will come. I want this poem to represent hope.

What else would you like to tell readers about your writing? (Doesn’t have to refer only to your BCC piece)

I would make everyone a writer.  We should leave words everywhere so they can grow flowers. I always wanted to be a writer and I am so grateful that I am.

Where can readers find more of your work? (Website/social media, etc)

I am in a bunch of anthologies, on Facebook with Prolific Press, and many online journals. Just Google me.
