BCC Shines A Light on: Ken Pobo

BCC Shines a Light On:

Kenneth Pobo

Name of the piece published by BCC:

Knoxville Drag Show

When/where was it originally published:

Blue And Yellow Dog (2012)

What is the background of the piece? What led you to write it? What’s your process?

I lived in Knoxville for 4 years and there were two gay bars I sometimes went to. The one bar was having a drag show. Drag shows can be fun and it seemed like a good subject.

How did you feel when it was first published and how have your thoughts or feelings on the piece changed from then to now?

I was happy that the poem was accepted. I think it’s even more important now that horrible lawmakers are attacking the LGBTQ+ community, including drag performers.

Is there a specific message you’d like readers to take away from reading this piece?

Message sounds like theme and I resist that. If you get a chance to see drag performers, do it. Have some fun.

Where can readers find more of your work? (Website/social media, etc)

I have many books and chapbooks, most recently Gold Bracelet in a Cave: Aunt Stokesia (Ethel Books) and Lavender Fire, Lavender Rose (BrickHouse Books).
