BCC Shines a Light On: Hrichita Paul

Name of the piece published by BCC:

Anthropocene Epoch

When/where was it originally published:

Published originally in my poetry volume, ‘Blood & Nectar’

Tell us more about your piece! What is the background of the piece? What led you to write it? What’s your process?

I was both mesmerised and frightened by how the present generation has almost started disregarding the importance of Nature, which is evident with the increase in the production of firearms, motorcars, etc. Buildings are being build where once trees stood high, and thinking about that kind of disturbed me as if in a sense, we are calling forth our own doom.

The process of writing the poem was basically a stream of consciousness thing for me, however, I did add details, and pick out certain things that could have prevented the flow of the poem. I see this poem as unifying in nature, despite being a modern poem that focuses on fragmentary elements. I would like to present the poem as a call — an urgent call that makes us turn to nature, and build in us enough empathy and awareness towards nature and biodiversity, in general.

How did you feel when it was first published and how have your thoughts or feelings on the piece changed from then to now?

I was, of course, very excited to see it get published, and I don't think my thoughts have changed much on the piece but of course, I would definitely say that I was lucky enough to bring it to light for the greater cause of humanity as the poem touches on a necessary issue.

Is there a specific message you would like readers to take away from reading this piece?

The only message I would like to sent to my readers through this piece is that poems can only do little in bringing awareness towards all issues, it is the people — the readers who can bringforth the needful change while remembering this little poem.

What else would you like to tell readers about your writing? (Doesn’t have to refer only to your BCC piece)

As a writer, I like to explore various different styles, I’m fond of trying out experimental writing though I don’t believe it is for me, and I reserve a special place for dark romance in both fiction writing and poetry writing.

Where can readers find more of your work? (Website/social media, etc)

You can find more of my works in my poetry volume ‘Blood & Nectar’;  Litmora Literary Magazine; Zhagaram Literary Magazine; Ode to Dionysus, etc.
