Tell us more about your piece! What is the background of the piece? What led you to write it? What’s your process?
I was sitting in my home office in Raleigh, North Carolina, on a beautiful autumn day, the open window letting in fresh air. I was making a list (as I do almost every day) and the story came to me. The story is set in Raleigh.
How did you feel when it was first published and how have your thoughts or feelings on the piece changed from then to now?
The editor of Prime Number at that time was Cliff Garstang, an excellent author in his own right. He, as I, mostly writes stories set in international settings, and he published several of my stories. I’m always pleased when people enjoy my stories. “Lists” is a good story – I thought so then and think so now.
Is there a specific message you would like readers to take away from reading this piece?
I firmly believe that good stories carry their own messages to readers.
What else would you like to tell readers about your writing? (Doesn’t have to refer only to your BCC piece)
When I was 21 years old, I went to Brazil as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I lived in Brazil for nearly 40 years. Most of my writing is set in Brazil.
Where can readers find more of your work? (Website/social media, etc)
I’ve published two collections of short stories set in Brazil: A Hero for the People (Press 53) and Padre Raimundo’s Army (Wiseblood Books). Also a novella, The Book of Jotham (Full Quiver Press), and two collections of poetry: Edgewater and Sketches/Rio de Janeiro (both Finishing Line Press).
All of the books are available from their publishers or on Amazon:
